Winward Racing will make its debut in the Asian Le Mans Series later this year, with the series revealing the American squad as one of three new teams that will join the championship for the first time.
The team will field a pair of Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evos for the six-race series, which kicks off at Sepang International Circuit on Dec. 7-8.
Team principal Christian Hohenadel recently told Sportscar365 that Winward will be embarking on a Middle Eastern program this winter, part of which also includes an entry into the Michelin 24H Dubai.
Winward currently competes in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, Michelin Pilot Challenge and Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS.
Two further teams have been confirmed to have been joining the grid, with Climax Racing and Tsunami RT both making their debuts.
Much like Winward, Climax will field a pair of Mercedes-AMG cars, with Mike Zhou the first confirmed driver. The Chinese squad is active in a variety of series, most notably including Fanatec GT Asia.
The two squads will be joined by Ukrainian-flagged, Italian-based Porsche squad Tsunami RT, fielding a single Porsche 911 GT3 R.
Fabio Babini, a former class winner in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, has been named as the first driver for the team’s lineup.
Previous GT3 outings for the team came in the Hankook 24H Series, as well as in last year’s Lenovo Gulf 12 Hours.
