Hollywood actor and racing driver Michael Fassbender will make the step up to GTE machinery this year with Proton Competition in the European Le Mans Series.
Fassbender will co-drive the No. 93 Porsche 911 RSR with Felipe Fernandez Laser and Porsche WEC GTE-Pro driver Richard Lietz.
The Oscar-nominated film star raced in Porsche Carrera Cup Germany last year, building on from his experience gained in the Ferrari Challenge North America series.
He will now follow in the footsteps of fellow actor and Dempsey-Proton Racing team co-owner Patrick Dempsey in driving a GTE-class Porsche on the international stage.
Fassbender will enter the full five-round ELMS season, which gets underway at Paul Ricard on July 19 and also visits Spa, Barcelona, Monza and Portimao.
The European program marks the next step on his journey towards competing in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
“Even before I started acting I had a big dream to go racing,” said Fassbender, whose first foray into motorsport came on the Porsche Driving Experience program.
“It was clear to me at a young age. My father was an avid driver and he taught me a lot.”
Proton Competition team boss Christian Ried added: “It’s always wonderful to be able to tackle new projects, and this is a very special one.
“It’ll be interesting to see how Michael progresses. As a team, we’re delighted to be able to accompany him on his road to Le Mans.”
