The second round of the European Le Mans Series season at Imola has been postponed because of delays to scheduled improvement works at the Italian circuit.
The series on Tuesday confirmed that the four-hour race will not go ahead on May 7 as originally planned, while a replacement date has not yet been confirmed.
Improvement work on Imola’s paddock and garage areas started in the winter and was initially due to be completed by mid-April, however delays have pushed the deadline back.
“Over the winter, a series of improvements had been planned to the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari,” read a statement from ELMS organizer Le Mans Endurance Management.
“However, a delay to the scheduled completion of these works at the circuit has forced LMEM, the organizers of the European Le Mans Series and Michelin Le Mans Cup, to postpone [round two] of the 2023 season, the 4 Hours of Imola, which was due to take place on Sunday, 7 May.”
The statement added: “LMEM is urgently working to find an alternative solution with the circuit management and competitors.
“An update will be sent to the partners, stakeholders, and the fans as soon as there is further information.”
The ELMS season is due to start at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on April 23.
