Lamborghini has taken the wraps off the Temerario GT3, which will make its racing debut next year.

Unveiled Friday at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the car is the first competition model entirely designed, developed and built by the Italian manufacturer at Sant’Agata Bolognese.

Powered by a four-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, the same as the production model, the Temerario GT3 features a number of customer-focused enhancements over its predecessor, the Huracan GT3, which debuted in 2015.

It includes an adapted version of the Temerario’s aluminum spaceframe chassis, specifically modified to meet the structural and serviceability requirements of sports car racing.

The Temerario GT3 comes with a six-speed sequential gearbox that’s transverse, which provides improved airflow in the diffuser and underbody, while utilizing a smaller-sized turbocharger from the road car due to the GT3 platform target of producing 500-600 horsepower.

The move to a turbo, from the Huracan’s normally aspirated V10, will provide improved raceability, while the car will now sport six-way adjustable dampers for added setup flexibility, particularly with gentlemen drivers.

Cabin comfort has also been a key point, with the Temerario GT3 offering increased cockpit visibility over it predecessor, while the car has a more robust bodywork package that allows quick-release front and rear ends and the ability to repair crash damage in a more efficient manner.

“The Temerario GT3 has been designed with the end user in mind,” said Lamborghini’s chief technical officer Rouven Mohr.

“Everything has been considered, from the efficiency of the aerodynamics to the power curve to the way in which the team is able to operate the car.

‘”The car operates in a slightly different area of the performance windows, that are used to balance the cars of different configuration, compared to its predecessor.

“We are confident that it will be competitive in terms of lap time, while also nice to drive in a wide range of conditions, including at night and in the rain.

“The development team has worked hard to ensure the car has a wide operating window, and that the teams are better able to work on it.”

Lamborghini’s Head of Motorsport Maurizio Leschiutta confirmed that the car began track testing last month and has so far accumulated 1,100 kms (683 miles) over six days of testing.

It’s race debut is expected to come in the first half of next year, with the initial target being the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring.

“The Temerario GT3 is the first racing derivative of the Temerario project, further emphasizing Lamborghini’s strong belief in motorsport as a key tool for promoting our road cars,” said Lamborghini chairman and CEO Stephan Winkelmann.

“Following the sporting and commercial successes of the Huracan GT3 project, with which we won 96 championships and sold over 200 units, we have always envisioned racing derivatives from the very inception of the Temerario project.

“The Temerario GT3 will set a benchmark for its competitors, just as the road-going Temerario has.”
