The next homologation period for LMP3 will see a change in powerplants, with ORECA having been selected to provide a twin-turbo V6 engine as a replacement for the Nissan VK56 beginning in 2025.
Confirmed by the ACO on Monday, the 5.6-liter V8 engine will be no longer be eligible for LMP3 competition due to the termination of the project by NISMO.
Details on the new twin-turbo V6, which will be confirmed for the 2025-2029 homologation period, have yet to be announced.
“The ACO has published an invitation to tender for the new 2025-2029 LMP3 engine taking into account criteria that will be important for the future of the category, including performance, fuel economy, noise reduction, and cost control,” a statement from the ACO read.
“After receiving multiple offers, the ACO is pleased to announce that it has selected ORECA’s twin-turbo V6 proposal as the new LMP3 engine for the 2025-2029 homologation period.”
The ACO is due to also communicate details on the car’s next homologation cycle, although it has reaffirmed that the current chassis manufacturers have all been retained and indicated that only limited adjustments will be made based on the number of cars competing worldwide.
