Will Stevens has been drafted into Racing Team Turkey’s LMP2 driver lineup for the 4 Hours of Spa to replace Jack Aitken who is absent due to an ADAC GT Masters date clash.
Aitken is driving an Emil Frey Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo at the Sachsenring this weekend, meaning he cannot take his place in the TF Sport-run No. 34 Oreca 07 Gibson for the penultimate round of the European Le Mans Series campaign.
Stevens will team up with full-season Racing Team Turkey drivers Charlie Eastwood and Salih Yoluc for the Pro-Am entry.
The British driver is the FIA World Endurance Championship LMP2 points leader and also won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in class with JOTA earlier in the year.
Stevens represented Panis Racing in the ELMS top category for four seasons until the end of last year, when he switched to the world championship as the retiring Anthony Davidson’s replacement in the No. 38 JOTA crew.
He finished third in last year’s ELMS LMP2 standings alongside Julien Canal and contributed to Panis Racing’s breakthrough maiden victory at the 4 Hours of Monza.
“Really looking forward to racing at Spa with Salih and Charlie and everyone at TF Sport,” Stevens said.
“It’s a team I’ve known for a long time being around the ELMS and WEC paddocks and will be awesome to race for them at Spa.
“I know everyone is pushing hard to continue their charge for the Pro-Am championship and I’ll give it my all to help them on their way to hopefully achieving that.”
Yoluc, Eastwood and Aitken lead the LMP2 Pro-Am standings after four races, and hold a 10-point lead over Nielsen Racing’s Ben Hanley, Rodrigo Sales and Matt Bell with two rounds remaining.
“It’s great to have Will with us in Spa,” said TF Sport team principal Tom Ferrier.
“His knowledge of the car will be a great asset to the team as we fight for the championship.
“We have known Will for some time now and I’m really pleased to finally have him in one of our lineups!”
Aitken will return to Racing Team Turkey for the final round of the season at Portimao next month.
