Evans to Make Full-Season Debut as Proton Names No. 77 Crew

Dempsey-Proton Racing has named the drivers of its No. 77 Porsche 911 RSR-19 for the upcoming FIA World Endurance Championship season, with Jaxon Evans signing on for his first full-time role in the series.

Evans, who is a former Porsche Junior driver, will team up with 2018 24 Hours of Le Mans GTE-Am winners Matt Campbell and Proton Competition team boss Christian Ried.

Campbell and Ried shared the No. 77 Dempsey-Proton Porsche with Riccardo Pera last season. The trio claimed a pair of second-place finishes including at Le Mans.

Evans made his WEC debut at the 2019-20 finale in Bahrain, driving Dempsey-Proton’s sister No. 88 machine.

The 24-year-old New Zealander’s main program was in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup where he finished fourth in the standings and won the opening round in Austria.

Evans and Campbell appeared on the entry list for the season-opening 6 Hours of Spa but their full-time participation has now been confirmed by the Dempsey-Proton team.

Campbell is also driving full-time for GPX Racing in Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Endurance Cup, in addition to his GT Le Mans role in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship with the Proton-run WeatherTech Racing outfit.

Dempsey-Proton has yet to announce the lineup for its No. 88 entry for this year, although reigning 24 Hours of Dubai winner Julien Andlauer has been named on provisional entry lists for the Spa opening round next month and Le Mans in August.
