The Ferrari 488 GTE Evo has been given a power increase ahead of this weekend’s FIA World Endurance Championship season-ending 8 Hours of Bahrain.
Confirmed in a Balance of Performance adjustment communicated to competitors on Wednesday evening, both the GTE-Pro and GTE-Am Ferraris regain roughly half of the power cut it received prior to last weekend’s 6 Hours of Bahrain.
The adjustments, across all RPM levels, will likely give the Prancing Horses about a 12 to 13-horsepower increase, based on previous numbers supplied by Ferrari to Sportscar365.
The cars have also received a 2-liter increase in fuel capacity to compensate for the additional power.
It comes after the Italian manufacturer was “pushing” to restore the original BoP that it had in the 6 Hours of Monza following a controversial opening weekend in Bahrain.
The two AF Corse Ferraris finished a distant third and fourth in last Saturday’s GTE-Pro race, which saw Porsche claim a dominant 1-2 and take over the GTE manufacturers’ world championship lead by a single point.
James Calado and Alessandro Pier Guidi head into Saturday’s title-decider with a one-point lead over Porsche’s Kevin Estre and Neel Jani.
A reason for the BoP change has not been detailed by the FIA or ACO and could again be outside of the automatic system.
