Patrick Pilet has received a late call up to drive for IDEC Sport in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, replacing Dwight Merriman in the team’s LMP2-class No. 17 Oreca 07 Gibson.
The team confirmed on Friday morning that Pilet will step into the lineup alongside Jonathan Kennard and Kyle Tilley after Merriman was ruled out following an accident during Free Practice 2 on Thursday.
Pilet, who is a Porsche factory driver, has never raced a prototype before and has only driven Porsche machinery in each of his 11 previous appearances at Le Mans.
The Frenchman was originally set to contest this edition of the race with the CORE autosport-run Porsche GTE-Pro squad, before that North American-based was withdrawn.
