Team WRT has unveiled a pair of special, one-off liveries for its LMGT3 effort at the upcoming 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The two BMW M4 GT3s have been given contrasting, yet similar designs for the 92nd running of the French endurance classic, which differ significantly from the livery both cars carried during the first three rounds of the FIA World Endurance Championship.
Inspiration for the livery comes from the Luigi ‘UFO’ BMW 3.0 CSL that took a class victory at Le Mans in 1977 and was notably driven by WRT’s sporting director Pierre Dieudonne.
The historical link is most clearly visible on the No. 31 car of Darren Leung, Sean Gelael and Augusto Farfus, which has also retained the predominantly red and white look it sported when it secured BMW’s maiden WEC win at Imola.
The No. 46 car, which nine-time motorcycle world champion Valentino Rossi will drive in his debut outing at Le Mans, has undergone the most radical transformation.
The black and white design that adorned the car in Qatar, Imola and Spa-Francorchamps has been replaced by a blue, white and neon yellow color scheme that bears some resemblance to Rossi’s helmet design while at the same time carrying over the ‘UFO’ look from its sister car.
The Italian will share the car with Bronze-rated driver Ahmad Al Harthy as well as fellow BMW factory driver Maxime Martin.
Fans will be able to get a closer look at both cars when they pass through scrutineering at Place de la Republique next week, while the No. 46 car will also be part of the post-scrutineering parade through Le Mans town centre.
