Marcus and Hampus Ericsson will make their joint GT3 debuts, joining Leipert Motorsport for next month’s Michelin 12H Malaysia.

Announced on Monday, the brothers will team up with compatriots Thomas Karlsson and Axel Bengtsson to form an all-Swedish lineup aboard the No. 63 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2 for the event at Malaysia’s Sepang International Circuit.

It will be the maiden GT3 outing for both Ericsson brothers, who have separately forged careers in the United States.

Marcus, the elder of the two siblings, had a five-year stint with Caterham, Sauber and Alfa Romeo in Formula 1 and then made the switch to the NTT IndyCar Series, most notably winning the Indianapolis 500 in 2022.

Although he lacks GT3 experience, he contested the Rolex 24 at Daytona twice in top-class machinery with Chip Ganassi Racing and Wayne Taylor Racing, respectively.

Notably, the two brothers have previously competed against each other in Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia in both 2022 and 2023, when Marcus made two cameo appearances in the season finale at Sweden’s Mantorp Park circuit.

The following season, Hampus switched to Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe before moving to the North American series this year, winning both the regional championship as well as the Pro world title with WTR and Danny Formal.

The younger of the two Ericsson brothers has an existing relationship with Leipert through a one-off appearance with the team in Super Trofeo Asia earlier this year.

The lineup will be completed by Karlsson and Bengtsson, who have both also previously competed in Carrera Cup Scandinavia.

Karlsson, 60, is a veteran of the single-make series with more than 100 race starts to his name.

Bengtsson, for his part, has progressed into GT racing after initially debuting in the Swedish Touring Car Championship. This past season, he raced a BWT Muecke Motorsport Mercedes-AMG GT4 in ADAC GT4 Germany.

The 12H Malaysia will take place on Dec. 5-6.
