Audi’s new Evo package for its R8 LMS GT3 has been spied ahead of a likely update for 2019.
The German manufacturer’s GT3 and GT4-spec machines are testing at Monza this week, with what appears to be a significantly overhauled aero package to the GT3 model.
The car, which debuted in 2015, features a re-profiled nose, grille and side skirt, likely to mirror Audi’s planned facelift for its production R8.
It was spotted running alongside a current-generation Audi GT3 car, likely for a baseline reference, with a GT4 car also turning laps at the famed Italian circuit.
While not confirming an Evo for next year, Head of Audi Sport customer racing Chris Reinke told Sportscar365 last month that an update would only be made to reflect changes to its road-going models and not necessarily for increased performance.
Audi has been considered as the most successful manufacturer in GT3, both with wins and championships and total car sales.
Both the Audi and Lamborghini Huracan GT3s are entering the final year of its homologation cycles, which therefore would prevent a future update beyond 2019 for the current machinery.
Lamborghini’s GT3 Evo was also caught testing at Monza last month.
