Maro Engel secured pole position for the No. 28 GetSpeed Team PCX Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo for this weekend’s Michelin 12H Mugello.
The Pro-Am class car which Engel shares with Benjamin Paque, Jordan Boisson and Patrick Charlaix scored an average pole time of 1:45.558, a second-and-a-half faster than last year’s average time.
The veteran Mercedes-AMG factory driver guided the team to pole in the final minutes of Q3 with a fastest overall time of 1:44.390.
It appeared as though Sainteloc Junior Team would take pole for much of qualifying, but Engel’s rapid lap put GetSpeed 0.165 seconds faster on average compared to Sainteloc’s Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II.
Reigning series champions Proton Competition returned to defend its title in Mugello, but the No. 73 Porsche 911 GT3 R Evo of Dennis Marschall, Manuel Lauck, Jörg Dreisow and Constantin Dressler will line up third on the grid in tomorrow’s race.
Just behind in fourth was the Mercedes-AMG of Ajith RedAnt Racing.
The No. 91 Herberth Motorsport Porsche of Ralf Bohn, Rolf Ineichen and Alfred Renauer rounded out the top-five, with ARC Bratislava’s Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO leading the Am class in sixth place overall.
HOFOR Racing scored seventh place on the grid ahead of the second Herberth Motorsport Porsche. Era Motorsport’s Ferrari 296 GT3 came home in ninth with HAAS RT completing the top ten.
Mühlner Motorsport took pole in the 992 class, 0.563 seconds ahead of the No. 909 Red Camel-Jordans.nl car.
GTX pole went to Dinamic Motorsport, with Mauro Calamia taking the fastest non-GT3 lap time in his Maserati MC20 GT2. The No. 114 Ligier JS2 R of Not Only Motorsport scored pole in the TCE-TCX class.
The first five-and-a-half hours of the Michelin 12H Mugello will start on Saturday at 11:35 a.m local time (6:30 a.m ET) with live coverage on Creventic Motorsports TV YouTube channel.
