Ayhancan Guven completed a weekend sweep during the DTM round of the Sachsenring, taking advantage of a collision between Thomas Preining and Jack Aitken to win the second race in a row.
The Turkish racer took the No. 90 Manthey EMA Porsche 911 GT3 R to victory by a margin of 2.298 seconds over the No. 48 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo of Jules Gounon after Ben Doerr was disqualified. Ben Green completed the podium in third,
Guven started the race from third behind Aitken and Preining, initially leaping up to second place at the start before his Manthey EMA stablemate got back ahead during the first round of stops.
However, the battle for the lead took a dramatic turn when Aitken’s No. 14 Emil Frey Racing Ferrari 296 GT3 was hit by Preining at Turn 1, leaving the Brit stranded in the gravel.
Preining, in turn, received a triple penalty lap for the incident, which promoted Guven to the race lead.
The No. 90 Porsche subsequently remained in front of the chasing pack, capturing a fourth win of the season and sweeping the weekend at the Sachsenring.
Doerr initially crossed the line in a career-best second place before the No. 25 Doerr Motorsport McLaren 720S GT3 Evo was disqualified for using a different set of tires for the sighting lap than those used in qualifying.
With both Aitken and Preining finishing down the order and Jordan Pepper not finishing, Lucas Auer managed to narrowly regain the lead in the championship by finishing eighth.
Green was classified third ahead of the two Schubert Motorsport BMW M4 GT3 EVOs of Marco Wittmann and Rene Rast, followed by Maro Engel and Morris Schuring.
Schuring, piloting the No. 92 Manthey Junior Team Porsche, lost out on a shot at a potential top five after receiving a penalty lap for crossing the white line at pit exit.
Auer was scored in eighth, with Gilles Magnus and Preining completing the top ten.
