Bamber Quickest; Haase Crashes in FP2

Earl Bamber led the way in Free Practice 2 for the FIA GT World Cup, laying down the quickest time of the weekend so far in Macau.

The Kiwi in the No. 912 Manthey Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R reeled off a 2:17.436 late in the 30-minute session to edge out the No. 888 GruppeM Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 of Maro Engel by 0.289 seconds.

Thursday pace-setter Robin Frijns was third in the No. 66 Team WRT Speedstar Audi R8 LMS, with Laurens Vanthoor fourth in the No. 911 Manthey Racing Porsche.

Augusto Farfus made it four different GT3 manufacturers in the top-five, setting a 2:17.955 lap time in his No. 42 Team Schnitzer BMW M6 GT3.

The session came to an early end when Christopher Haase spun and made contact with the wall in the final corner, damaging his No. 28 Audi Sport Team Rutronik entry.

All three Macau rookies have now found the wall in practice, following Dries Vanthoor and Mathieu Jaminet’s incidents on Thursday.

Raffaele Marciello, who had steering issues on his No. 999 GruppeM Mercedes on Thursday, continued to struggle, having posted the 12th quickest time after completing just seven laps.

Qualifying gets underway at 4:10 p.m. local time.
