SRO Proposes ‘GT3 Cup of Nations’ Event for Sochi

The FIA’s World Cup for GT3 Pro-Am drivers could be held in Russia, with SRO Motorsports Group having proposed a ‘GT3 Cup of Nations’ concept to the FIA for approval.

Stephane Ratel revealed the proposal Friday at SRO’s 25th anniversary celebrations in Paris.

The event, to be held at the Sochi Autodrom on Oct. 20-21, 2018, would feature a three-sprint race format comprised of Silver and Bronze-rated drivers, each paired in a car according to their nationality.

Only one car per nation would be allowed, in a similar concept to the annual Race of Champions.

The project is subject to the approval by the FIA GT Commission and the World Motor Sport Council, which meets next on Dec. 6

The Pro-Am-enforced event would compliment the existing FIA GT World Cup, which shifted to professional-only drivers this year, with the FIA having opened the tender process for a Pro-Am World Cup in August.
