Dominik Baumann suffered a fractured collar bone in an incident during practice for the Nürburgring 24 Qualifying Race on Saturday.
He was involved in an accident with fellow Mercedes-AMG driver Manuel Metzger during the opening session on Saturday morning, and remained in hospital overnight after incurring a collar bone fracture and concussion in the incident.
Metzger’s No. 2 Black Falcon Mercedes-AMG GT3 was the first GT3 car to arrive at Klostertal on Saturday morning, and he was caught out in the unpredictable weather conditions, sliding into the barriers.
Baumann, driving the No. 16 GetSpeed Performance Mercedes, arrived at the same corner soon after, and slid off track into Metzger’s car with his visibility having been impaired by traffic.
Both drivers were taken to hospital and Metzger was able to leave on the same day with minor bruises, while Baumann stayed overnight for observation.
“The most important thing is that Manuel and Dominik are more or less okay after the accident,” said Stefan Wendl, head of Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing.
“From this place once again a speedy recovery to both of them! Thankfully, the proven safety concept of the Mercedes-AMG GT3 has prevented anything worse.”
