HWA will compete in this year’s Nürburgring 24 with race-prepped versions of its EVO ‘super saloon’ featuring the sons of former two former Mercedes-Benz 190E Evo II DTM racers on the driving strength.
The German company released the first photos of the HWA EVO.R on Tuesday, which is being billed as a “bespoke racing variant” of the 190E Evo II DTM car that ran in the German touring car championship from 1991-94, where it won the 1992 championship with Klaus Ludwig.
The EVO.R will contest the N24 in the SPX class, with Sebastian Asch and Luca Ludwig, sons of 190E Evo II DTM racers Roland Asch and Klaus Ludwig, alongside three-time overall N24 winner Markus Winkelhock confirmed as the first three drivers.
“Exceptional interest” in the program has seen it expand from a previously announced two-car effort to three cars for the May 16-17 twice-around-the-clock endurance classic.
“Having been involved in top level motorsport at the Nürburgring for over 25 years, the circuit is like a second home to us,” said HWA CEO Martin Marx.
“We are naturally incredibly excited to finally be competing in a car of our own, but to see that excitement matched by so many drivers, fans, customers and sponsors makes it all the more special.”
The road-going HWA EVO is a modern “ultra exclusive reimagining” of the 190E 2.5-16 Evo II, which features a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine and a six-speed manual gearbox.
It will have a limited run of 100 units and be priced from €714,000 ($841,212 USD).
Each HWA EVO.R race car competing at the N24 will sport an updated homage to a period livery, with heritage sponsors including Karcher and SONAX already confirmed to return.
Full performance and technical information of the EVO.R will be announced at a later date, with all three cars currently in various stages of build.
On-track testing is slated to begin later this week at Portimao.
