The opening round of the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie has been canceled due to weather and safety reasons, officials have confirmed.
The four-hour NLS1 event, the 71st ADAC Westfalenfahrt, was due to get underway at 12 p.m. local time but was ultimately called off due to light snow and freezing conditions.
It came after practice and qualifying had initially been delayed, with the hopes of improving conditions to still get the race in.
Several teams, including Verstappen Racing, however, had already decided to not take part prior to its official cancelation, on grounds of safety, which came just over an hour before the scheduled start.
More than 130 cars were on the entry list for the race.
Next weekend’s 58th ADAC Barbarossapreis will now become the season opener, an event that will see the participation of Formula 1 superstar Max Verstappen, in preparation for his Nürburgring 24 debut in May.
