This weekend’s official NLS pre-season test has been canceled due to freezing weather conditions at the Nürburgring.
The VLN organization issued a bulletin on Wednesday announcing that the decision was taken after sub-zero temperatures were recorded at noon.
VLN VV managing director Christian Stephani explained that snow had fallen in the Eifel hills region of Germany where the Nürburgring Nordschleife is located.
“The Nürburgring is currently wrapped in a thin layer of snow and it is questionable whether this will thaw in the next two days,” he said.
“In addition, temperatures as low as -8 C [17.6 F] are forecast for the night from Friday to Saturday. Even the freezing point is only reached around noon.
“After consulting with various teams, we came to the conclusion to cancel the event early in order to save an unnecessary journey.
“The safety aspect also plays a role: when the temperature is below zero, the tires have a hard time reaching operating temperature and the brakes also cool down again on the long Dottinger Hohe [straight].”
The first round of the 2021 NLS season is due to take place next Saturday.
Pre-season running will be shifted to the Friday of that event, with a total of eight hours and 45 minutes of track time available between two sessions on either side of midday.
