Richard Westbrook will add to his diverse racing portfolio this year, as the Englishman has been confirmed as one of the 16 drivers for BMW’s attack at the Nürburgring 24.
The GM factory driver will join BMW Sport Trophy’s customer program in the twice-around-the-clock endurance classic, including next weekend’s season-opening VLN round.
Westbrook joins BMW factory drivers Lucas Luhr, Joerg Mueller, Dirk Mueller, Dirk Adorf, Claudia Huertgen, Jens Klingmann, Markus Palttala, Alex Sims, Dominik Baumann and Nick Catsburg in the expected four-car assault between the Marc VDS and Schubert squads.
Driver combinations for each car have yet to be confirmed, although BMW’s DTM drivers Marco Wittmann,Martin Tomczyk, Augusto Farfus and Maxime Martin will complete the lineup for the Nürburgring 24 on May 16-17.
“We are convinced that BMW Sports Trophy Team Schubert, BMW Sports Trophy Marc VDS and our drivers are all in an excellent position for the endurance season on the Nordschleife,” said BMW Motorsport director Jens Marquardt.
“Our team is a mix of experienced drivers and young talents who have all experienced the Nordschleife and are familiar with the GT races. They are fast even in difficult conditions.
“With this combination, we are ready for success in the particular challenges the Nordschleife has in store once again in 2015.”
Westbrook, who continues his full-season role with VisitFlorida.com Racing in the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship, took part in last year’s Nürburgring 24 at the wheel of an Audi R8 LMS ultra entered by Prosperia C.
He got his first laps at the wheel of the BMW Z4 GT3 during last weekend’s VLN pre-season test.
