A new GT4 and TCR-based series in Canada has been launched for 2021, featuring a number of top Canadian sports car racing teams.
The FEL Sports Car Championship Canada will feature dual-class sprint-style races of 40 to 45 minutes in length in order to fill the void from Canadian teams that have faced difficulties crossing the border amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
A number of top outfits including Multimatic Motorsports, Pfaff Motorsports, R. Ferri Motorsport and AIM Autosport already having committed to the series.
Franczak Enterprises Canada Ltd., a longtime sponsor of Canadian drivers and teams, will serve as the series promoter for the six-event championship that’s slated to kick off at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in May as part of the Victoria Day weekend that currently also features SRO America.
A formal announcement of the series’ launch was made late last month.
“The support from the racing community has been truly awesome,” said FEL President Chris Bye.
“We hadn’t planned on making the announcement until February but the swell of support including 18 paid registration deposits made it clear that we are going in the right direction.
“It’s time to get busy, we have a lot to do.”
Multimatic, which has forgone its season-long entry in IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge due to travel challenges, will enter at least one Ford Mustang GT4, while AIM Autosport announced Wednesday that it will field up to three Toyota GR Supra GT4s in the domestic series.
“All of us at AIM are looking forward to getting our hands on the new Supra GT4 in early April and competing in this exciting new series announced by FEL,” said AIM team principal Ian Willis.
“We can’t wait for the season to start and we are committed to being an active part in its growth and success.”
