Phoenix Racing has confirmed its 2016 program, which will see the German team compete in three different GT series, as well as the 24-hour races at Spa and the Nürburgring.
The Meuspath-based team is set to run two Audi R8 LMS in the Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup this season, with 2014 German Formula 3 champion Markus Pommer sharing the wheel of one car with previously announced Dane Nicolaj Møller Madsen.
Niki Mayr-Melnhof and Markus Winkelhock will be reunited again in the team’s second Audi R8 LMS. It will be the third consecutive season together for the Austrian and the German.
Pommer and Winkelhock will also share the cockpit of an Audi R8 LMS in the ADAC GT Masters this season.
Additionally, Phoenix Racing will compete in the 24 Hours of Spa, the ‘blue riband race’ of the Blancpain GT Series. Christopher Mies, Frank Stippler and Markus Winkelhock will race the team’s Audi R8 LMS at Spa, as announced by Audi last month.
Danish driver Anders Fjordbach, who raced for ISR in the Blancpain GT Series last season, will share his car with Frank Stippler in all ten rounds of the VLN Endurance Series at the Nordschleife.
The Nürburgring 24 is also on the team’s calendar. Phoenix won the event four times and will enter two cars this year.
Frank Stippler, Christopher Haase, René Rast and Markus Winkelhock will race together in the team’s first R8 LMS, while Anders Fjordbach, Stippler and two yet-to-be-announced drivers will race the second car.
