Super GT has confirmed that it will hold its first-ever night race at Sepang International Circuit in 2020.
The former Malaysian Grand Prix venue joined the Japanese sports car championship in 2000 and was a mainstay on the calendar from 2002 to 2013.
It lost its place on the schedule in 2014 when Chang International Circuit became the new non-Japanese round, although the Thai track’s contract is set to expire next year.
Sepang’s return will be promoted by marketing company Haro Sports & Entertainment which endorses soccer, golf and e-sports competitions in Malaysia.
HSE managing partner Fahrizal bin Hasan signed the contract for the 2020 event during a press conference with GTA chairman Masaaki Bandoh ahead of this weekend’s season finale at Twin Ring Motegi.
The night race, which does not have a confirmed date or length, will take place under Sepang’s newly-installed floodlight system.
“GTA decided to partner with Haro Sports & Entertainment for the purpose of holding a race at Sepang International Circuit in 2020,” said Bandoh.
“Haro has been managing a soccer team in Malaysia and also has branding in the sports world.
“Having a partnership with such a promoter is very pleasing for GTA to promote globalization and we would like to promote awareness raising of Super GT in Malaysia together.”
