Blake McDonald continued his top form in GT America powered by AWS competition by setting the quickest time in Thursday’s second and final practice prior to qualifying for this weekend’s pair of season-ending races at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
McDonald, in the No. 11 DXDT Racing Chevrolet Corvette, recorded a 1:24.535 in the session, which despite being slower than his 1:24.259 benchmark lap set in Practice 1, was still quick enough to top the session.
The No. 29 Turner Motorsport BMW M4 GT3 EVO of Justin Rothberg, who can clinch the SRO3 class title on Friday, was second quickest, 0.373 seconds behind McDonald, who is not expected to take part in the pair of 40-minute contests.
Memo Gidley slotted in third in the session, with George Kurtz and Tony Davis completing the top-five, ahead of Joel Cortes and Jeff Burton.
GT2 was again led by the No. 62 Flying Lizard Motorsports Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2 of Evan King, while Archangel Motorsports team owner Mike Johnson, in his long-awaited racing return, again topped GT4 in his ProSport-run Aston Martin Vantage GT4.
Qualifying is on tap for Friday at 9:20 a.m. EST, ahead of Race 1 later that day at 4:50 p.m. with live coverage on SRO’s GT World YouTube channel.
