After taking over the points lead at Virginia International Raceway, Johnny O’Connell will be looking to consolidate his advantage in the title race heading into this weekend’s GT America powered by AWS races at Road America.

The SKI Autosports driver, who took a third and victory in Virginia, enters the pair of 40-minute sprint races in Wisconsin with a narrow eight-point advantage over Jason Daskalos in the SRO3 class standings, in what’s since turned into a two-way battle for the title following the recent withdrawal of George Kurtz.

Kurtz will again not be present at Road America after also pulling his CrowdStrike by Riley entries last time out at VIR.

A total of 19 cars, however, are entered for this weekend’s race, including the series debut of Regulator Racing with driver Jeff Burton in the No. 91 Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo, the return of the No. 14 GMG Racing Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II of James Sofronas, as well as Mirco Schultis’ Callaway Corvette C7 GT3-R.

Additionally, Elias Sabo’s SRO3 entry switches from an Aston Martin Vantage GT3 Evo to a BMW M4 GT3.

As previously reported, Alan Grossberg moves to the GT4 class with a new McLaren Artura GT4, joining a class field of seven cars, led by Rotek Racing’s Isaac Sherman, who has scored eight class wins out of ten races so far in his Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport.

Sherman holds a sizable 63-point lead over ACI Motorsports’ Curt Swearingin with six races to go.

GT America competitors will have a pair of test sessions at the four-mile Wisconsin circuit on Thursday, followed by practice on Friday, qualifying and Race 1 on Saturday and Race 2 on Sunday.

Both races will be streamed live on SRO’S GT World YouTube channel and on Twitch.
