Braydon Arthur led a JMF Motorsports 1-2 in the second practice of the Pirelli GT4 America weekend at Barber Motorsports Park on Friday.
Arthur’s 1:28.998 benchmark lap time, set early in the 45-minute practice session, was enough to top the overall times before handing his Silver class No. 4 Aston Martin Vantage GT4 Evo off to Mike David Ortmann, with the Canadian outfit seeing both of their Aston Martins sit atop the times for most of second practice.
Arthur set his quickest lap on just his third attempt around the 2.38-mile Alabama road course, with stablemate Jonathan Neudorf a narrow 0.032 seconds behind in the sister No. 3 Aston Martin.
Matheus Leist, meanwhile, was third-fastest in the No. 23 Nolasport Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport. He set the fastest Pro-Am class time of the session from third overall on the time sheets.
Tyler Gonzalez’s No. 68 RAFA Racing Team Toyota Gazoo Racing GR Supra GT4 EVO2 finished Practice 2 fourth quickest ahead of the Pro-Am class No. 7 ACI Motorsports Porsche of Riley Dickinson.
After hopping out of the car from GT World Challenge America powered by AWS Practice 1, Kenton Koch reeled off the sixth fastest time in the No. 97 class Random Vandals Racing BMW M4 GT4 EVO, which competes in the Silver class.
Random Vandals was also fastest in Am, with Darius Trinka leading the class with the 11th best overall time in the session aboard the No. 98 BMW.
Running in Practice 2 was incredibly close, with the top 14 times covered by less than one second.
The No. 07 Skip Barber Racing Vantage of Michael and Alex Garcia was the only car in the field that failed to set a lap time.
In the final moments of the session, the red flag was shown when Luca Mars’ No. 39 Van der Steur Racing Aston Martin appeared to stop at the exit of Turn 4. Though with the checkered flag having been displayed nearly simultaneously, the stoppage did not impact practice running in any meaningful way.
Next up is the GT4 America makeup race from Road America, which takes the green flag at 3:35 p.m. CST with live streaming coverage available on SRO’s GT World YouTube Channel and on Twitch.
