Eike Angermayr and Reinhard Kofler came from the back of the grid to win Race 2 of the GT4 European Series Northern Cup round at Slovakiaring on Sunday.
The RYS Team KTM drivers made steady progress through the field and took the lead in the closing stages of the race, with Kofler passing RN Vision STS’ Razvan Umbrarescu with four laps remaining.
It marks the first victory of the season for the KTM-backed Reiter Young Stars team, driving the No. 14 KTM X-Bow GT4.
“I took over the car and just put in everything I had and we could go forward,” said Kofler. “The last ten minutes were really great. I saw the top runners get closer and closer and then I had some good moves.
“Our race was running fantastic and we’re very happy to win the first race this season. I think we deserved a podium a few races ago and this time we got it!”
Polesitter Gabriele Piana successfully defended his lead into the first corner but a safety car period was called when the RYS Team Schoenramer / Racecom KTM crashed into the barrier later on the first lap.
The RN Vision STS Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport MR led the rest of the race until Kofler passed Umbrarescu in the closing stages.
Kofler and Angermayr won the race with an 0.662-second lead over the Porsche, while Race 1 winners Max Koebolt and Ricardo van der Ende were third.
