The Brands Hatch round of Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Sprint Cup has been rescheduled for the U.K bank holiday weekend of Aug. 28-29.
The return of the short-format GT3 series to the former Grand Prix venue was initially due to take place in May, but the meeting was recently postponed due to ongoing coronavirus measures in the U.K.
It also enabled GTWC Europe to free up a busy part of its 2021 schedule, which had Brands originally sitting two weeks after the Endurance Cup opener at Monza and one week before the Sprint Cup event at Magny-Cours.
The new late August date means Brands Hatch is now due to host the penultimate round of the Sprint season, rather than the curtain-raiser as originally planned.
It will slot in one weekend before the Nürburgring Endurance Cup fixture, and four weeks after the Total 24 Hours of Spa.
The move to reschedule Brands Hatch was also driven by a desire from GT World Challenge organizer SRO Motorsports Group to permit trackside spectators at the event.
It falls on the weekend of the U.K’s annual summer bank holiday on Monday, Aug. 30.
This latest calendar update has prompted the SRO-organized FFSA French GT series to postpone its Aug. 27-29 round at Ledenon, which has yet to be given a new date.
