GPX Racing will represent Porsche in November’s Kyalami 9 Hour, with the endurance race-winning squad likely to field all-factory lineup in the Intercontinental GT Challenge powered by Pirelli season finale.
Sportscar365 has learned that the Dubai-based GPX operation, which claimed victory in the Total 24 Hours of Spa, has confirmed a Porsche 911 GT3 R entry with a yet-to-be-announced pro driver lineup.
It’s believed Porsche will again allocate a factory lineup to the team, likely one of the German manufacturer’s full-season IGTC trios that have contested each round of the global GT3 championship.
Richard Lietz, Kevin Estre and Michael Christensen claimed victory in the Gulf-liveried Porsche at Spa although are not part of the German manufacturer’s full-season IGTC roster.
Porsche’s second season-long lineup was initially believed to have gone to EBM, which as reported by Sportscar365, laid out plans to also contest the South African enduro.
However, team principal Earl Bamber has since backtracked on those plans and has ruled out an entry for the Nov. 21-23 race.
It’s unclear which other Porsche team will run the second factory lineup at this time.
The trio of Dirk Werner, Dennis Olsen and Matt Campbell, who won the Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour for EBM, currently sit fifth in the IGTC drivers’ championship, ten points behind leader Maxi Buhk.
Porsche’s other lineup of Mathieu Jaminet, Romain Dumas and Sven Mueller are further back in the running due to non-points finishes at Bathurst and last month’s Suzuka 10 Hours.
