Paul Holton remained atop the time charts in the second and final practice for McLaren Trophy America ahead of this weekend’s pair of season opening races at Sonoma Raceway.
The Forte Racing driver reeled off a 1:37.170 in his No. 8 McLaren Artura Trophy EVO, outpacing the sister No. 42 entry of Patrick Liddy by a mere 0.009 seconds.
Holton initially topped the time charts in the 60-minute session, although Sam Nesser’s 1:38.238 briefly saw the No. 74 RWE Motorsport McLaren take the quickest time before Holton established a new benchmark lap for the weekend.
Liddy, meanwhile, laid down a 1:37.393 following the resumption of racing after a red flag for the No. 7 GMG Racing entry of Randy Highland, who suffered an accident in Turn 4, and improved further in the closing minutes, posting a 1:37.179 time.
Highland’s Pro-Am class entry he shares with John Capestro-Dubets, will lose its two fastest laps in qualifying due to bringing out a red flag, per race control.
James Cook continued his form in the sister GMG entry, pacing the Am class with the third quickest overall lap time, ahead of Nesser in fourth and Pro-Am class pace-setter Oliver Webb in fifth, aboard the No. 22 Greystone GT entry.
Cooper Broll, now driving for Forte, was sixth overall, followed by Orlando Motorsports Services driver Scott Sorbaro and Kevin Madsen, who set the second quickest time in Pro-Am aboard the No. 53 RPM by Forte machine.
Qualifying is set for Saturday at 8:20 a.m. PST (11:20 a.m. EST) followed by the first race of the weekend at 3:05 p.m. PST (6:05 p.m. EST) which will be streamed live on SRO and McLaren’s YouTube channels and also on Twitch.
