Kevin Madsen put his Am class Forte Racing McLaren Artura Trophy Evo on the overall pole position for Race 2 of the McLaren Trophy America weekend at Road America.
Madsen took his No. 53 Forte machine to the top of the times on his fourth of five flying laps to outpace the Pro-class No. 74 RWE Motorsports’ Artura of James Li by 0.109 seconds.
With Li on the Pro pole in second, James Sofronas will start on the second row of the grid, having gone third fastest overall in his Am class No. 14 GMG Racing McLaren.
RWE’s John Dempsey was fourth-quickest overall, to secure the Pro-Am pole in the No. 10 Artura Trophy Evo he co-drives with Andrew Davis.
Jason Guzman went fifth-fastest in the session and will start the race second in Pro in the No. 52 AERO-B Motorsports McLaren, which underwent a driver change overnight. Chris Leichtweis was “unwell and unable to compete,” according to a stewards bulletin, meaning Joe Osborne will compete in his stead in Race 2.
The red flag came out in the final seconds of the session after a heavy crash for Tanner Harvey’s No. 24 Forte McLaren in the final corner.
Only drivers’ final flying laps were impacted by the red, though only a few seconds were officially lost in the 15-minute qualifying session.
Harvey was reportedly uninjured in the crash. Despite setting the second-fastest Pro-Am time and seventh-quickest overall time in the session prior to the incident, the No. 24 McLaren was stripped of its two fastest laps for bringing out the red flag.
Race 2 takes the green flag at 10:15 a.m. CST with live coverage on SRO’s GT World and McLaren Automotive’s YouTube channels.
