Jack Perkins will be one of the star attractions in the inaugural Motorcraft Mustang Cup Australia, competing with the support of Triple Eight Race Engineering.

After recently being confirmed as an endurance driver for Triple Eight’s new third Supercars entry with Jackson Walls, Perkins has been entrusted with the champion team’s Dark Horse R and will compete under the squad’s famous No. 888.

Triple Eight’s interest in the one-make V8-powered series is an extension of its new partnership with the Ford Motor Company.

The Shaw and Partners Financial Services-backed Dark Horse R will be prepared and maintained by HMO Customer Racing, the team that is synonymous with success in TCR Australia, winning three titles with Will Brown (2019) and Josh Buchan (2023 and 2024).

Perkins will enjoy his first drive of his Mustang Dark Horse R at the media and test day at Sydney Motorsport Park this evening alongside the other confirmed entrants and other prospective drivers looking to join the category that, for some, is the start of their motorsport journey with Ford Racing.

Mustang Cup Australia will be another feather in Perkins’ illustrious career spanning Supercars, endurance racing and NASCAR.

The 2019 Bathurst 1000 podium finisher is the son of six-time Bathurst champion Larry Perkins.

“I really have to thank Earl Evans for giving me his brand new Mustang Dark Horse R to let rip this year,” he said

“We have put together a really good program and it’s taken a lot of work and investment in quick time to piece it all together so I’m very grateful for this opportunity.

“The Mustang Cup Series looks to be a great championship, well supported by Ford and the cars look pretty awesome so I’m really keen to get behind the wheel.

“We are looking forward to a really strong year, the aim is to be fighting for race wins and the championship glory so it will be head down from this first shake down tonight, learn the car, work with the team and get on with the program.”

The Motorcraft Mustang Cup Australia will open its season as part of the Shannons SpeedSeries at Phillip Island on March 27-29.
