Pirelli GT4 America Sprint drivers Michael Cooper, Spencer Pumpelly and Ian James are set for a championship showdown this weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

The three drivers head into the pair of 50-minute races at the Nevada roval separated by 8.5 points, in what’s been one of the hardest-fought championship battles all season in SRO Motorsports America competition.

Blackdog Speed Shop’s Cooper took over the lead of the Pro championship following a sweep of the weekend at Road America, including a rain-shortened Race 2 that awarded half points.

Cooper holds a 7.5-point lead over Pumpelly, in the No. 66 TRG Porsche 718 Cayman GT4, with Team Panoz’s Ian James third in the standings following a challenging outing at Road America.

Cooper’s efforts in the No. 10 McLaren 570S GT4 has helped propel McLaren to the top of the manufacturers’ championship, 24 points ahead of Panoz and 34.5 ahead of Porsche, while the Illinois-based Blackdog squad holds a slim 4.5-point lead over Team Panoz and 5.5 points ahead of TRG heading into the season finale.

While Drew Staveley locked up the GT4 Sprint Am title in Road America, positions behind are still to play for, with Alan Brynjolfsson of Park Place Motorsports and Blackdog’s Tony Gaples second and third in the class title race, respectively.

A total of 21 cars are entered for the GT4 Sprint races, including Shane Lewis in a PF Racing Ford Mustang GT4 following the ceasing of operations of Robinson Racing and Matt Brabham making his return in CRP Racing’s previous-generation Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport MR.

Official track action gets underway on Thursday evening following a promoter test day, with the first race slated for Saturday at 2:40 p.m. PT.
