A total of 31 Toyota GR86 cars and drivers are set for this weekend’s season-opening rounds of Toyota GR Cup North America at Sonoma Raceway.
The third season of the highly competitive single-make series kicks off with a bumper entry list, featuring new and returning teams to the SRO America-run series.
While Gresham Wagner will not return to defend his 2024 drivers’ title, defending teams’ champions Copeland Motorsports will field a total of seven entries.
It includes full season entries for Jaxon Bell, Beltre Curtis, John Lennon, John Dean, Ford Koch, Jenson Sofronas and PT Autosport Young Aspiring Driver Shootout winner Zach Hollingshead.
Hollingshead will be in a PT Autosport-backed GR86 for the season.
Inaugural teams’ champions TechSport, meanwhile, will field five cars, featuring Brett Kowalski, Ayden Kirk, Christian Weir, Ethan Goulart and Max Schweid.
2024 runner-up Spike Kohlbecker has made the switch from TechSport to RVA Graphics Motorsports by Speed Syndicate, as part of a three-car effort that includes Will Robusto and Farran Davis.
Westin Workman, who finished third in the overall standings last year and scored rookie-of-the-year honors with Copeland, meanwhile, will spearhead BSI Racing’s efforts alongside Massimo Sunseri and team owner Shea Holbrook.
Nitro Motorsports is another powerhouse team this year, with four entries for Jackson and Ehan Tovo, Ethan Ayars, and Paityn Feyen.
Longtime SRO America entrant Precision Racing LA will have two GR86s for Karl Forman and Mike LaMarra, while Eagles Canyon Racing by Fast Track will field Jason Kos, Livio Galanti and Patrick Brunson.
There are several single-car efforts for Sonoma as well.
Alex Garcia will be with Skip Barber Racing, while Miles Hewitt will be entered under the van der Steur Racing banner, Lucas Weisenberg with his Lucas Racing operation and Casey Mashore with Mashore Autobody.
A pair of test sessions kick off activity at Sonoma Raceway on Thursday, followed by two practice sessions on Friday and split qualifying on Saturday and Sunday.
Race 1 takes the green flag Saturday 2:05 p.m. PST, with the second 45-minute contest set for Sunday at a 12:55 p.m. start time, with the races streamed live on SRO’s GT World YouTube channel.
