Jeremy Fletcher and Spike Kohlbecker are set to continue their fight for Toyota GR Cup North America supremacy this weekend as the single-make series hits Sonoma Raceway for Rounds 3 and 4 of the season.
After a highly competitive duel between the two drivers at the Grand Prix of Arlington, where Fletcher and Kohlbecker each took a win and a second place, the two drivers are tied for the lead of the points standings on 43 points.
While the temporary circuit, in the backdrop of the NTT IndyCar Series, could foreshadow what’s to come in the season between the Copeland Motorsports and TechSport Racing drivers, several other talents showed promise in Arlington as well.
Podium finishes for Max Schweid and Will Robusto, both driving for RVA Graphics Motorsports by Speed Syndicate, have proven good early season form, as well as TechSport’s Parker DeLong.
Second-generation drivers Beltre Curtis and Jenson Sofronas, meanwhile, showcased improved pace in their sophomore seasons in the Toyota GR86 Cup cars and are expected to factor throughout the campaign.
A total of 27 entries are set for Sonoma, which sees several drivers make their season debuts.
It includes Garrett Manes (Speed Syndicate) as well as Jared Odrick and Livio Galanti (both Dream Machine @ Eagles Canyon)
Track action begins on Thursday with a test session, followed by two 30-minute practice sessions on Friday, and qualifying and races both on Saturday and Sunday.
Race 1 gets underway on Saturday at 4:15 p.m. PST (7:15 p.m. EST), with Race 2 on Sunday at 12 p.m. PST (3 p.m. EST). Both races will be streamed live on SRO’s GT World YouTube channel and on Twitch, as well as on GRCup.com.
