De La Torre Racing will return to Pirelli World Challenge this year, confirming a Sprint-only campaign for its Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3 of Jorge De La Torre.
The Mexican driver is set for a championship attack in the GTA class after missing most of the 2016 season due to an accident at Lime Rock Park that left De La Torre with multiple fractures and injuries.
He made his return to the wheel at the season-ending round at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in October and is now set for his first appearance at St. Pete in three years.
“We are very excited to have the opportunity to be back on this track which I haven´t raced since 2014,” De La Torre said. “Getting there with this new livery, representing my home country and all my fellow Latinos in the U.S. empowers me and my team to give it our best out there.
“We had a successful test in Houston where we came up with a good [setup] for St. Pete and had plenty of seat time to get comfortable with the Aston.”
De La Torre is one of nine competitors currently entered in the GTA class for St. Pete, including Mike Hedlund (K-PAX McLaren), John Potter (Magnus Audi) and reigning GT Cup champion Alec Udell, who steps up to the class in a GMG Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R.
