Tommy Milner and Alec Udell notched their seventh consecutive Fanatec GT World Challenge America powered by AWS Pro class victory in Saturday’s opening round of the weekend at Barber Motorsports Park.

Milner took the No. 63 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R to a 1.090-second win over the No. 99 Random Vandals Racing BMW M4 GT3 of Kenton Koch in the 90-minute contest that ran caution-free.

The Corvette factory driver fended off a hard-charging Koch in the run to the checkered flag.

Having started on pole, Udell held control of the race over the Pro-Am class pace-setter Philip Ellis in the No. 91 Regulator Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo, which was on a reverse driver strategy, through the mid-race round of pit stops.

Ellis’ co-driver, Bronze-rated Jeff Burton, emerged second overall and lost the Pro-Am class win to the No. 64 DXDT Corvette of Bryan Sellers in the closing stages.

Additionally, Burton was subjected to a two-second post-race penalty for having too short of a pit stop, an infraction that dropped Burton from third to fourth in class at the finish.

It marked Sellers and co-driver Bryson Morris’ second consecutive class win and a sweep of the Pro and Pro-Am classes for the David Askew-owned team.

The No. 93 Racers Edge Motorsports Acura NSX GT3 Evo22 of Zach Veach and Luca Mars notched a third place overall finish and Pro class podium, ahead of the No 28 ST Racing BMW of Bill Auberlen and Varun Choksey.

Trent Hindman and Jake Pedersen picked up second in Pro-Am, meanwhile.

Pro class points leaders Elliott Skeer and Adam Adelson saw their advantage nearly cut in half with a fifth place result, with the Wright Motorsports duo now holding only a 20-point lead over Milner and Udell with two races to go.

The battle in the Pro-Am class championship, meanwhile, took a curveball on the opening lap when points leader Samantha Tan made contact with rival Justin Rothberg, spinning the No. 29 Turner Motorsport BMW around.

Tan received two drive-through penalties, one for a start violation and another for incident responsibility, dropping the No. 38 ST Racing BMW to the rear of the field.

Rothberg and co-driver Robby Foley rallied to finish third in class, although Tan and Neil Verhagen were seventh at the line.

The No. 163 AF Corse Ferrari 296 GT3 of Ozz Negri and Jay Schreibman, the lone Am class entry this weekend, finished 14th out of the 16 race starters.

The only retirement was the No. 92 MMG Porsche, which dropped out early with a suspected clutch issue.

Race 2 takes the green flag Sunday at 2:15 p.m. CDT with live coverage on SRO’s GT World YouTube channel and on Twitch.
