Mike Hedlund will return to Pirelli World Challenge action later this month at Sonoma Raceway, as part of an increased effort by Flying Lizard Motorsports.
He will race a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup on his debut in the GT Cup category, while Andy Wilzoch will also compete in his GTA-class Porsche 911 GT3 R.
This two-car program is in addition to the three McLaren 650S GT3s that Flying Lizard enters in partnership with K-PAX Racing.
Hedlund is also set to compete with Flying Lizard in the Pirelli Driver Cup on the same Californian circuit, the weekend before the PWC rounds on Sept. 17-18.
No stranger to PWC, Hedlund raced in GTA for a few rounds last year, and took fourth overall at Sonoma in 2014.
“I can’t wait to return to the Pirelli World Challenge at Sonoma Raceway,” said Hedlund. “While it will be my first time officially driving under the Flying Lizard banner, I’ve known most of the people on the team for years as we’re based out of the same area.
“It’ll also be my first time entering the GT Cup class after competing in the GT class the last few seasons, but I’ve always kept an eye on them as my background is in Porsche Cup cars.
“Racing near home and sharing the event with family and friends is always a highlight of my season and I hope we’ll have a strong and competitive weekend for the entire team.”
The GT Cup class is expected to see a further boost for Sonoma with the return of the Calvert Dynamics Porsche of Preston Calvert.
