Muehlner Switches to PWC With Two-Car Porsche GT4 Effort

Muehlner Motorsports America will make the switch to Pirelli World Challenge, having revealed plans to enter a pair of Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport MRs in the GTS class next year.

The Belgian-based squad, run by European endurance racing veteran Bernhard Muehlner, enjoyed one of its best seasons to date, with 15 class victories, six runner-up finishes and 22 podiums across VLN, IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge and Porsche Club of America competition.

While returning to VLN next year, the team plans to also make its PWC debut, although is still finalizing its driver lineups.

Muehlner said they will shift focus to the sprint race championship, after seven years of racing in IMSA, first with Grand-Am prior to starts in both the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and Continental Tire Challenge.

The team exited IMSA competition following the Road America Continental Tire Challenge round in August, when it lost its second place finish due to a time penalty for allegedly passing under yellow.

Muehlner said he had video evidence to prove otherwise at the time.

“PWC is very close to how racing is in Europe,” Muehlner told Sportscar365. “The SprintX format was created in Europe in 2006 and we are very much used to it.”

A number of top drivers, including Jeroen Bleekemolen, Kyle Marcelli and Cameron Lawrence, have driven for the team in the past.

Further details on the team’s planned PWC program are expected to be announced in the coming months.
