The No. 29 Turner Motorsport BMW M4 GT3 EVO of Justin Rothberg and Robby Foley has lost its runner-up Pro-Am class finish in the shortened first race of the GT World Challenge America powered by AWS weekend at Road America.
Confirmed in an amended result published by SRO America on Saturday evening, the car has now been classified seventh in class due to having a five-second time penalty added.
This penalty was due to be served during the mandatory pit stop and driver change as part of Rothberg’s driver rating derogation from Silver to Bronze*.
However, no pit stops were taken as a result of the red flag that eventually ended the race early.
The time penalty for Rothberg was introduced this weekend as an added measure to his derogation, which includes 26 kgs of ballast on the car and in the case of GT America powered by AWS races, a five-position grid penalty.
“Due to the suspension of the race, car No. 29 was unable to serve the Sporting penalty as defined by Doc No 3 Sporting Board Derogation,” the GTWC America decision read.
“According to Article 16.9, Should any penalty that cannot be imposed for any operation reason, the penalty may be converted to a time penalty which will be added to the overall elapsed time of the car concerned.”
It has promoted the No. 11 DXDT Racing Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R of Matt Bell and Blake McDonald to a second place class finish, with the No. 16 AF Corse Ferrari 296 GT3 of Marcello and Christian Hahn now scoring a podium finish.
Additionally, the amended results confirmed that competitors received half points in Race 1 due to the race time being less than 50 percent of the original race distance completed.
