R. Ferri Motorsport has been ruled out of this weekend’s Pirelli World Challenge SprintX round at Lime Rock Park due to the accident damage sustained to its Ferrari 488 GT3 car at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
The Alex Riberas and Kyle Marcelli-driven entry was unable to take part in the SprintX race in Canada following the Spaniard’s accident in qualifying, which caused chassis damage to the Prancing Horse.
While it was rumored that Riberas and Marcelli could revert to the Canadian team’s Ferrari 458 Italia GT3 for Lime Rock, Marcelli confirmed to Sportscar365 on Wednesday that is not the case, with the duo also out of action this weekend.
As a result, it essentially eliminates Riberas and Marcelli from championship contention in SprintX, although the Ferrari factory driver remains in the thick of the Sprint series title fight, sitting third in the GT standings heading into the next round at Road America in a month’s time.
A total of 33 cars are now expected for the third SprintX weekend of the season, with official track activity kicking off on Friday.
