Tom Sargent ended the opening official day of GT World Challenge America powered by AWS track action on top, with the Australian leading the way in both practice sessions at Barber Motorsports Park.
Sargent, in the No. 32 GMG Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R, reeled off a chart-topping 1:21.350 in Friday afternoon’s practice session, improving on his 1:21.357 that was set in the morning session.
His overall quickest time in the afternoon was 0.307 seconds quicker than the No. 99 Random Vandals Racing BMW M4 GT3 EVO of Connor De Phillippi, who laid down a 1:21.657 lap in the Pro class-leading entry.
The No. 91 Regulator Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo of Philip Ellis ended the session third overall on the time charts, followed by the No. 29 Turner Motorsport BMW M4 GT3 EVO of Robby Foley and the Jan Heylen-driven No. 18 RS1 Porsche, which completed the overall top-five.
Dollahite Racing’s led the way in the Am class with the No. 6 Ford Mustang GT3 of Eric Powell setting the 12th quickest time overall.
The 60-minute afternoon session ran without any red flags or major incidents.
