SprintX titles will be decided this weekend at Utah Motorsports Campus, with Pirelli World Challenge championships still on the line between the GT and GTS categories.

A total of 79 cars are entered across all eight classes of competition, in the penultimate overall round of the year prior to next month’s season finale at Watkins Glen International.

With four victories in eight races, R. Ferri Motorsports’ Toni Vilander and Miguel Molina head into Utah in the SprintX championship lead, with a 14-point margin in the title race.

Scott Hargrove and Wolf Henzler sit second in the No. 96 Pfaff Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R, with the Alegra Motorsports duo of Michael Christensen and Spencer Pumpelly third.

The Pro-Am class, meanwhile, sees Parker Chase and Ryan Dalziel, fresh off overall victory last month at Portland International Raceway, hold an eight-point margin over TR3 Racing’s Jeff Segal and Wei Lu.

A total of 14 GT3-spec machines will take part this weekend, thanks to the return of Lone Star Racing’s Mercedes-AMG GT3 for Mike Skeen and Scott Heckert, as well as two new additions.

Risi Competizione has entered a Ferrari in the Pro-Am class for Anthony Lazzaro and Pierre Mulacek, while the Japanese Am pairing of Naoto Takeda and Takuya Shirasaka will be behind the wheel of a Turner Motorsport BMW M6 GT3.

Sofronas, Welch Close In on GTS SprintX Title

The No. 14 GMG Racing Audi R8 LMS GT4 of James Sofronas and Alex Welch enter Utah with a 25-point lead in the SprintX standings, meaning they could lock up the title with a solid result in Race 1.

Both Harry Gottsacker and Jade Buford, however, remain with a fighting chance, with the Racers Edge Motorsports SIN R1 GT4 sitting second in the championship, three points ahead of Buford’s PF Racing Ford Mustang GT4.

Buford will again be joined by veteran Scott Maxwell this weekend.

The biggest news, however, comes with the return of Johnny O’Connell, who will team up with son Canaan in the No. 72 Robinson Racing Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R.

It is one of 19 GTS Pro-Am class entries, alongside the 14 Am cars, led by points leader Drew Staveley.

Track action gets underway on Friday with practice and qualifying scheduled for Saturday morning, prior to the first of two 60-minute races of the weekend for both GT and GTS competitors.
