Reigning Blancpain GT Series champion Maxi Buhk will take part in the inaugural Blancpain GT Series Asia season, having been confirmed in GruppeM Racing’s star-studded lineup of two Mercedes-AMG GT3s.
Buhk will team up with British driver Hunter Abbott in five of the six rounds, except for next weekend’s season-opener in Sepang due to prior commitments with Mercedes-AMG, where 2013 FIA European F3 champion Raffaele Marciello will fill in.
GruppeM’s second Mercedes-AMG GT3, meanwhile, will be driven by Blancpain GT front-runners Jules Szymkowiak and Tim Sugden, with both cars set to carry factory support from the German manufacturer.
The Hong Kong-based team, which makes its return to international racing this year, joins the likes of FFF Racing Team, Phoenix Racing Asia and Craft-Bamboo as full-season entrants.
The former FIA GT and British GT champions were the first to commit to the new series when it was officially launched in December.
The full Sepang entry list will be unveiled next week ahead of this season’s opening round in Malaysia on April 8-9.
