Philipp Eng will complete Walkenhorst Motorsport’s lineup for the Total 24 Hours of Spa, with the BMW DTM driver setting his sights on a third victory in the Belgian endurance classic.
Eng, who was part of BMW’s winning lineups in both 2016 and 2018, will join full-season Intercontinental GT Challenge powered by Pirelli drivers Augusto Farfus and Nicky Catsburg behind the wheel of the team’s No. 34 BMW M6 GT3.
The 30-year-old Austrian’s most recent win in the race came with the Henry Walkenhorst-owned crew nearly two years ago.
“The 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps is a really special race for me,” said Eng. “I celebrated my first major success as a BMW works driver there in 2016 and brought home a very emotional win with Walkenhorst Motorsport in 2018.
“The best GT drivers and teams in the world take each other on in Spa. To be part of that again in 2020 is fantastic. I can’t wait.”
Eng takes the seat of Chaz Mostert, who joined Farfus and Catsburg for last month’s season-opening Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour.
Walkenhorst’s second BMW will debut at Spa with drivers Martin Tomczyk, Nick Yelloly and David Pittard after having been ruled out o Bathurst due to logistics issues stemming from last year’s season finale in Kyalami.
The team is stepping up to a two-car IGTC operation after fielding a single entry last year for Catsburg, Mikkel Jensen and Christian Krognes.
