2016 Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup champion Enzo Ide is currently hospitalized and in a medically induced coma after sustaining a head injury at home.

The 28-year-old Belgian has been in hospital for the past two weeks after hitting the back of his head while at home on Aug. 13.

He was first taken to hospital in Torhout before being moved to a larger hospital in Bruges, where he was found to have internal bleeding inside his head.

“We all hope for a steady and rapid recovery,” said his family lawyer Stijn Verbist.

“The operations went well, but to relieve pressure on the brain, he is still being held in an artificial coma.

“We hope that he will regain consciousness and recover well. But that is a frightening wait for everyone. There is of course great concern.”

Ide was crowned Blancpain GT Sprint Cup champion in 2016, driving one of Belgian Audi Club Team WRT’s Audi R8 LMS GT3s with Christopher Mies (pictured above).

Since then, he made some starts in the FIA World Rallycross Championship.
