New Mercedes-AMG customer team JP Motorsport has confirmed its presence at the next two rounds of GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Endurance Cup.
The Polish-flagged team will contest next weekend’s six-hour race at the Nürburgring with its Mercedes-AMG GT3, in preparation for the Total 24 Hours of Spa in October.
Ex-Formula 1 driver Christian Klien will share the wheel with his GT Open co-driver Patryk Krupinski and 2017 FIA World Endurance GTE-Am champion Mathias Lauda.
Klien and Krupinski took an unexpected victory on JP Motorsport’s race debut in the GT Open season-opener at the Hungaroring in early August.
The pairing is currently fourth in the overall standings and leads the Pro-Am classification after two rounds.
JP Motorsport’s foray into GTWC Europe and long-distance racing is set to start as a Pro entry for the 6 Hours of the Nürburgring, before transitioning to Pro-Am for Spa with the addition of a second Bronze driver alongside Krupinski.
The team, which runs on Michelin tires in GT Open, is aiming to use the Nürburgring race to get acquainted with GTWC Europe’s Pirelli rubber and to prepare for its 24H Spa debut.
GT Open is set to visit Spa the weekend before the 24-hour race, which is part of both GTWC Europe Endurance Cup and Intercontinental GT Challenge powered by Pirelli.
The entry lists for the Endurance Cup rounds at Spa and the Nürburgring have yet to be released.
