Audi Sport Team Sainteloc has lost the lead of the Total 24 Hours of Spa after serving a drive-through penalty for a pit stop infringement.
The team was initially handed a penalty during the eighth hour but appealed it, suspending the decision.
Frederic Vervisch then brought the car in for a stop, handing over to Markus Winkelhock, who came back in the following lap to serve the penalty.
It’s dropped the car to fifth, with Christian Engelhart taking the lead for Grasser Racing Team, but soon dropping behind Black Falcon’s Maro Engel in the next series of pit stops.
Grasser’s No. 63 Lamborghini Huracan GT3, the pole-sitting Black Falcon Mercedes-AMG GT3, Sainteloc’s Audi and the GruppeM Mercedes are effectively now the front-runners, although all on slightly different strategies.
Audi Sport Team WRT took its mandatory five-minute technical stop earlier, dropping out of the lead battle for now after leading for a while earlier.
