Race 2 of the GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Sprint Cup round at Misano has been red-flagged after a significant accident involving Georgi Donchev and Darren Leung.

Donchev and Leung were engaged in battle when a touch from behind pitched the No. 1 GRT Grasser Racing Team Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2 into a high-speed spin at Turn 11.

The car then made heavy impact with the barrier, bursting into flames before ricocheting across the circuit and coming to a rest on the edge of the gravel trap.

Donchev rapidly exited the car under his own power, while race control quickly upgraded the initial Full Course Yellow to a red flag in order to carry out necessary barrier repairs.

The Bulgarian has since been checked at and cleared from the on-site medical center.

The No. 80 Lionspeed GP Porsche 911 GT3 R of Gabriel Rindone was also eliminated in the incident, as the Bronze-rated driver, unsighted, damaged his car after making contact with the stationary Lamborghini.

Out front, Marvin Kirchhoefer’s No. 59 Garage 59 McLaren 720S GT3 Evo held off a challenge from the No. 46 Team WRT BMW M4 GT3 EVO of Raffaele Marciello.

Maro Engel moved the No. 48 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo into third ahead of the No. 96 Rutronik Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R in the hands of Sven Mueller.

It is currently unclear when the race will be resumed.
